THE SOUNDS OF JAPAN was recorded in 1999 when Hank was in Japan as part of the Fulbright Memorial Fund Project. These field recordings comprise both music and environmental sounds, such as gongs, bells, children practicing English in school or the sounds of taking a subway in Tokyo and getting off at the second stop.
